Finding Boot Grease

Of course, Mr. Phil, you would bring up the boot grease.

At the beginning of our search for waterproof footwear, I (Colleen) consulted my sister Kathi. Kathi lives on the Oregon coast and she works outdoors, so she knows a lot about waterproof footwear. Kathi, in fact, knows a lot about waterproof anything. Kathi recommended that we treat our hiking boots with boot grease, and she suggested a particular brand of boot grease that is the best available. Let me stress now that Kathi is an outdoors kind of woman. If I were ever to meet a bear or a cougar out in the woods, it is Kathi I would most want at my side. Let me also state, before I continue my story, that I am reasonably sure Kathi's only interest in boot grease is keeping her feet dry.

The first thing I discovered when I set out in search of this particular brand of boot grease is that stores don't stock it here in the central valley of "sunny California." No problem, I thought... I'll check the internet.

The second thing I discovered, when I googled this particular boot grease, is that there is a whole world out there on the internet which has everything to do with men wearing leather and nothing to do with keeping one's feet dry in the forest. In fact, in all the web sites I investigated, I did not see one man walking in the woods.  I saw a lot, including some things I had never seen before, but I didn't see one man walking in a rainy forest with his face smiling because his feet were comfortably dry and warm.

Phil and Dianne saved the day when they found our boot grease for sale in a little store on the California coast. They bought us lots, and then the jokes began. And, as you can see, the jokes continue. So, Mr. Phil, I hope this sets the record straight about the boot grease. You two will surely be envious of how warm and dry our feet are when we visit New Zealand's very rainy West Coast.
